Bandido’s Burritos in West Asheville is all about fresh, seasonal ingredients with a traditional Latin flavor and offers enough diversity to please anyone whether Vegan, Carnivore, Vegetarian or with Gluten allergies. Bandido’s owner and chef, Justin Smudde, has been a chef for nearly twenty years and offers an array of alluring Lunch and Dinner menu items such as the Banh Mi Tempura Beer Battered Fried Local Trout Tacos ($9) and the Cuban Plate ($11), with roasted mojo pork, rice & beans, plantains & warm tortillas. The Local Trout Ceviche (pictured, $7) is out of this world, and, If you dare, try the Shrimp Diablo, a wonderfully spicy dish consisting of 8 shrimp w/ onions, garlic, tomato deglazed with tequila & lime, with house made chili paste & cilantro - served over rice and crispy yuca patty ($12). Want lighter fare? Try the Veggie Burritos ($8) or Tacos ($7) and the Triple Citrus Ceriche Salad. The menu also features freshly made quesadillas and enchiladas, as well!
Bandido's uses all locally sustainable ingredients and their produce comes straight from organic farmers in the area. Justin has honed his skills and worked long and hard to acquire how to make it in the traditional way, not the Cali-Mex or Tex-Mex friendly way. Bandidos also offers Catering, Private Parties, Festivals, and any other special event occasions.
“Some of the best food in Asheville”
My partner and I are Mexican-food junkies- and once we find 'our place' it is hard to go elsewhere. We went to Bandidos last night and had one of the best meals since moving here to Asheville. Both of us got the Chipotle Steak tacos and they were fabulous. The chipotle seasoning was perfection. We got yucca, corn & bean salad and plantains as our sides (taco plates come with 1 side... so we ordered an extra). All were good but the plantains were OUT OF THIS WORLD. When we complemented them on the food, they said that they get about 10 people/day raving about the plantains... they are THAT good. For such a small little restaurant, they have a great microbrew selection. Their salsa selection is great too. If you are into spicy, try the Roasted Apricot/Scotch Bonnet or the Cranberry Scotch Bonnet salsas. You can't get much better than this.
